Reports

City & Guilds (C&G), UK's largest and best-known vocational awarding body, has accredited Bharatiya Yuva Shakti Trust's (BYST) mentoring programme that the trust has set up to recognize Mentors who successfully complete the Mentor Training Program - an online course and Practical Assessments. Ms Edwina Mc Queen, Head, Business Unit from City & Guilds' London office and Ms Lakshmi V. Venkatesan, Founding Trustee and E.V.P. signed an MOU on April 13th in New Delhi in the presence of Ravi Pillai, the Indian representative of C&G.

The accreditation will now enable BYST to grant certificates with BYST and C&G logos to Mentors as a badge of recognition for their service to the community. C&G encourages and provides vocational qualifications, education and training, which are recognized worldwide. BYST is a not-for-profit organization that primarily assists disadvantaged Indian youth to develop business ideas into viable enterprises under the guidance of a mentor, the main idea being assisting job seekers to become job creators. Inspired and officially launched by HRH, The Prince of Wales, BYST has financed around 1200 entrepreneurs creating employment for 10000 people (direct & indirect) in the past 12 years. 5% of BYST supported entrepreneurs have become millionaires and over 55,000 young people has benefited from its training and counseling nationwide.

Mentors have been the backbone of BYST's success - helping young entrepreneurs in the urban and rural areas at the start-up stage to scale new heights. It is strongly believed that this accreditation will give universal recognition to the Mentors and instill a sense of pride in them. Mentoring is a valuable skill in today's world, wherein there is a huge demand for certified Mentors. To be eligible for this certificate, a mentor has to complete and pass all modules of the six-hour online course as well as complete 10 hours of practical work.
